Welcome gentle reader, to my shiny new website. It’s been quite a while since I had one. I’ve been freelancing for over 11 years now, so I felt like I’d trotted out the “I’ve just been too busy” excuse for quite long enough. The cobbler’s children have finally got new shoes.
When I think back to all the years I’ve been on social media without creating content for my own site, it pains me a little. I spent about 15 years as a pretty avid Twitter user before I abandoned it a couple of years ago. If I’d put some of that energy into blogging I’d surely have several hundred posts by now. So this is a fresh start in a place to call my own.
This website is going to be the vehicle for my plans to return to making products. I built and supported a software product a few years ago, and I believe I’ve reached a stage in my career where it’s time I diversified my business. I’ve had a great experience freelancing, but it’s time to put some energy into executing my own ideas, as well as helping other people with theirs.
In addition to rambling on about whatever I want (hey, it beats doomscrolling), I’ll be openly plotting world conquest here. I’ve started “pitching” my first online course idea, a WordPress website performance and security bootcamp. I’ve been working on my personal fitness this year and so far I’ve done two seven-week ‘shreds’ and dropped over two stone. That got me thinking it would be a neat way to frame a course. To help business owners give their WordPress website a tune-up.
I’ve already got two more course ideas rattling around my head that I’ll make pitch pages for, but next on my to-do list is building out a members’ area to deliver them. I’ve worked with MemberPress on a few projects and I’ve got spare license seats, so using MP is a done deal.
So there you have it. I’ll be writing more substantial pieces in future, but this gets me back in business. In the meantime, if the bootcamp course sounds good to you, jump on the waitlist and let me know!
